About me

Hello parents/guardians, I am married to my husband Stuart; we have 2 beautiful children at home with us aged 11 and 9. We have an affectionate dalmatian dog who has grew up surrounded by children.

I love nothing more in life then spending time and going on lots of exciting adventures with my family. My hobbies and interest are anything to do with connecting with the GREAT outdoors including walking/ hiking and kayaking. My other are cooking/ baking , gardening and swimming.

I feel the most relevant experience I have is being a mum myself. I am currently working in a day nursery and absolutely love my job! I have been a foster carer for 6 years now and currently have 1 child in my care.

I am a enthusiastic nature lover with a true passion for connecting children to nature and supporting their developing.  Children crave hands-on exploration which is especially beneficial when their young brains are still under construction.  When children are encouraged to safely explore the outdoors, they are able to learn first hand how the world around them works.

Outdoor learning is a big feature of my home setting. Children flourish when they are given lots of opportunities to ‘get down in nature. It helps them to develop important life skills such as  self-reliance, problem-solving, critical thinking, safe risk-taking, discovering talents and forming  their individual identities

Location

My home, which I intend children to spend a great deal of their time, is surrounded by a beautiful garden with trees including fruit trees, lots of vegetation and a vegetable patch. I even have a dipping pond and a stream running through the bottom of the garden (inaccessible to children). I am planning to be an accredited forest school in the near future as my garden can provides endless of opportunities for children to thrive and learn. We are a stone away from the amazing Lumsdale Valley and a beautiful woodland.

Other location perks include:

  • A member of Matlock Farm Park
  • Local amenities include Matlock library, Ark Leisure centre

About my home setting

My home setting in the stunning Derbyshire Dales is surrounded by nature. I have large garden that is separated into 2 sections, a child-friendly enclosed area where children can explore and learn about nature through gardening (growing their own fruit and vegetables), muddy play, pond-dipping, mini-beast hunts, caring for guinea pigs and lots more endless outdoors fun. The second part of the garden is inaccessible to children. It is a ‘secret’ lush garden with tall trees with a stream running through it that children can do their very own thorough investigations of nature, all with careful supervision.

My home child-centred with a good range of play resources including home-made resources made from natural materials. I have ensured toys are at children’s own height so they can access what they choose:

  • Playroom conservatory with children’s height furniture and soft furninishings
  • Wooden toys, play resources and books within easy reach of children
  • Seating area in the children’s garden

Sarah's Coronavirus Safety Precautions

I have carried out a full Covid-19 risk assessment to make sure my home is a safe environment but that it is still welcoming for children. The measures that I have identified to put in place are:

  • All toys are easy clean (majority of soft toys on shelves and will be regularly machine washed)
  • Any children who want to nap will have their own bedding and washed after each use.
  • I have a carpet cleaner, so carpets are deep cleaned at least once a month.
  • Hand sanitiser and, of course, regular hand washing!
