About me
I’m a registered childminder based in Carlton, Nottinghamshire. I provide registered childcare and early education with a holistic approach in a safe, home-from-home setting for my local community.
My journey started after 8 years of assisting in classrooms, working with SEN (Special Educational Needs) and primary school chlidren. I was astounded by the lack of fresh air and movement for children, and I could see the impact it had on their behaviour and learning.
When lockdown hit in 2020, my 4-year-olds schoolwork was a bunch of worksheets and screentime. He did not enjoy it, so I adapted it to become as creative and active as possible. I took online courses into ‘Hygge’ and ‘Montessori’ learning. I also researched schools in Scandinavia and Canada.
I quickly realised how different their preschool and education system looked to ours. It looked fun!
As well as following the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), I take a holistic approach to learning and incorporate health and wellness into our activities as much as possible. There are enormous therapeutic benefits when outdoors with children, and I would love to help your child thrive this way too. As a mother of two, I know parents are facing magnified challenges meeting all their child’s needs.

We open Tuesdays and Thursdays and Fridays only. After School Care and Easter Holiday Club places available on request.

About my home setting
Our Nature School consists of a large outdoor area. There is a sensory garden cabin, astro-turfed sports pitch and wild nature area with mud kitchen & chicken coop. We have fruit and vegetable planters, outdoor painting facilities and a calming swing.
As well as being outdoors, children have access to the cabin, where they can snuggle up with a blanket to look at a book or lie down on the nap mats to have a rest should they require it.
In the case of high winds, we use the indoor playroom, kitchen and dining room space.

Driver: Yes but we prefer to walk! We have an 8 seater minivan available for excursions further afield.

Activities
We are outdoors most of the day (4hours min) in all weathers (except high winds). We LOVE nature and all things natural so offer a variety of outdoor provisions and natural resources where possible. As well as following the EYFS and making sure children’s developmental needs are met, we focus on essential life skills and encourage independence for all.
